Free Positive Parenting Program

The Australian Government now offers a FREE online ‘Fearless’ Triple-P Positive Parenting Program aimed at helping parents who have children that experience anxiety and here is my review of it.

Many of you may have heard about the Triple P - Positive Parent Program but this program is a little different. It isn’t aimed at teaching positive parenting skills in general, it is aimed at using a similar style of positive parenting but with a focus on how to use those skills specifically with children who experience anxiety. The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program has been developed here in Australia and is now the world’s most widely researched parenting program with hundreds of clinical trials and real-world studies to back it up. So in short, the online Fearless Triple-P course uses what they know from research to teach you the skills and strategies to put into practice with your child(ren) who experience anxiety. The course will teach you what anxiety is, how it presents in children, how it can accidentally exacerbate, how it can be managed once you understand the three (thinking, feeling, behaving) facets of it and how you can best support your child when they are anxious.

The course is designed for the everyday parent to understand. I noticed it avoids jargon making it much easier to take in the information. It has six modules that take approximately 30-60minutes to complete each and can be done at your own pace. Each module contains informative videos that are only 1-3minutes long so they are easily digestible and also have activities, little quizzes to make sure you are on the right track and also free worksheets to guide you in supporting your child. The course helps you to identify how anxiety shows up for your child because it can show up differently amongst children and once you have a clear understanding of how your child experiences anxiety, it guides you to set goals so that you can monitor your child’s progress while you learn to implement the taught skills.

The modules covered are:

  1. Understanding anxiety

  2. Promoting emotional resilience

  3. Setting a good example and encouraging realistic thinking

  4. Understanding avoidance

  5. Responding to children’s anxiety

  6. Constructive problem solving and maintaining progress

The only downfall I noticed was that there were a couple of technical glitches from time to time throughout the course but they were minor so all in all, the course is an incredible resource that really will teach you about your child’s anxiety anyhow to help them in a simple to follow format and even better, it is completely FREE.
